Dear Pennies & Pens,

It’s Pen here reporting on Venexiana by Kati Stern for New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2012. For this season designer Kati Stern showed a collection that was full of details, elegant fabrics, a broad range of colors, and picturesque evening gowns. The collection was definitely interesting to watch as it came down the runway.

The fabrics used were silk, organza, chiffon, and lace just to name a few. With these types of luxury fabrics it was no surprise that the collection consisted of eveningwear fit for the Met Gala. In fact, Kati Stern is known for her gowns so it made sense that they were the focus of the collection.  For colors, Kati used everything from black to copper to gold, ivory, rose, and turquoise.

However, the collection was a bit disjointed in some ways. I believe a collection should be told like a story so every piece should relate to one another but still be unique so that everything doesn’t look the same. While this collection featured some amazing standout pieces like a black gown with a sheer top or a one shoulder gold gown, it didn’t flow.

I did enjoy the show and there are pieces from the collection that I would love to see on the Red Carpet or in a fashion editorial. Venexiana was launched in 2003, so being that the line is less than 10 years old, it still has room to grow. This should be looked at from a “glass is half full not half empty” perspective because Kati certainly has the vision and talent to be the designer that dresses women for the Red Carpet and special occasions. It’s simply a matter of her focusing her talents into a seamless collection.

And there it is. de la Pen…All Pen Everything.
