Dear Pennies & Pens,

It’s Pen here to report on Mathieu Mirano Fall/Winter 2012. I’ll admit when I first saw this collection, I wasn’t really a fan. However, after going back and seeing pictures of the collection I’ve changed my mind. Not completely, but, the collection was better than I originally thought.

Fall/Winter 2012 was Mathieu’s first collection shown at Lincoln Center during New York Fashion Week so I would say though there were some missteps it was a fairly good collection overall. My favorite piece was a phenomenal and yes, I do mean phenomenal gold gown. This piece was simple in design and structure and the only detail was the black design on the side of the dress. I also loved the beautiful brown coat and wool pants worn by one of my favorite models & past de la Pen “Model Mondays” feature Georgie Badiel.

The missteps in the collection came in the form of tailoring on certain pieces. Some of the clothes seemed to hang off the models instead of being worn by the models. Also, there was a wine colored tube top that I just didn’t like. My reasons for this are it could only be worn by a model because the top would require a flatter chest and flat stomach who we all know is the figure that only models have. Honestly, if I could take this one piece out of the collection, I would have.

But back to the positives of this collection so I don’t go into LoudPen rant mode, I loved the colors! They were so bold and different. The shade of red and gold used were amazing because they seemed to literally pop! Another cool factor were the way the zippers were done on the suits in the collection, it was extremely different and fun to look at. Overall, the collection was a good start and Mathieu’s clearly got amazing potential.

And there it is. de la Pen…All Pen Everything.
