Dear Pennies & Pens,

For this week’s Tuesday’s Stylish Thoughts, I decided to feature male style icon because I want to begin celebrating men’s style and fashion more on de la Pen. However, I wanted to chose someone who is slightly out of the fashion box and yet someone who is still respected for their keen fashion sense. In essence, after racking my brain, browsing through other blogs, Facebook, and Twitter (BTW thanks to @Ms_43938 for her suggestions which I plan to use in the future) I chose Amar’e Stoudemire.

Amar'e Stoudemire

If you don’t know, Amar’e Stoudemire is the center and power forward for the New York Knicks. He began playing for the Knicks in July of 2010 when he opted out of his contract for the Phoenix Suns. I remember people buzzing about this news and though I’m more of a football fan, I still have love for basketball. Either way, I can appreciate someone whose good at what they do and Amar’e is definitely good at what he does. He currently holds the Knicks franchise record after having nine straight 30 point games.

Additionally, Amar’e has appeared on the NBA All-Star team six times, he has a bronze medal for the 2004 Olympics, and he won Rookie of the Year in 2003. Basically, Amar’e is a 6’10”, 240 lbs basketball superstar. So what’s all this got to do with fashion? Well, nothing really. The only connection that Amar’e truly has to the fashion industry is an amazing sense of style.

I mean think about it, yes, he’s rich and all, but, do you know how hard it is to be almost seven feet tall and look stylish? Usually, when a guy is over 6’5″ he’s pushing giant status and has to get custom clothes made (if he can afford it) and even then sometimes, he can still come off looking awkward & uncomfortable. Not the case with Amar’e, he’s making 6’10” the new 6’2″, kinda like how Jay-Z made 30 the new 20. And did I mention that Amar’e’s been rubbing elbows with fashion’s elite like American Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour & European editor at large, Hamish Bowles?! Some ducks or Knicks have all the luck, I guess.

And there it is. The Fashion & Style of the Pen…de la Pen.
